Greetings!

It’s already June, and although I’ve had the opportunity to meet with a significant number of our members (my goal has been one per day), I’ve still more visits to plan. If you haven’t heard from me yet, give me a call!  I want to learn about your business, including your goals, your plans, and your challenges.

These past 3 months have seen a growing momentum here at our Chamber of Commerce and there have been some exciting changes to our events, membership benefits, and other opportunities.

We’ve been busy here at home!

Chamber Breakfast Meetings
Perhaps most recognizable change is the format of our Chamber Breakfast Meetings.  If you haven’t yet joined us for a Chamber Breakfast Meeting, you should!  We’ve got sponsors and spotlighters (a mini trade show), built-in networking opportunities, new member introductions every month, and interesting speakers.  The following is what we’re working on in the next few months:

The June 13 Chamber Breakfast Meeting is sponsored by the Lamoille County Sheriff’s Department.  Sheriff Roger Marcoux will be speaking about his department’s initiatives and the opioid crisis in Lamoille County. We’ve presently scheduled 5 spotlighter tables, as well as 4-6 new members to be introduced, and we would welcome a couple more of each! Spotlighting is a free member benefit! Click here to register for the June 13 Chamber Breakfast Meeting!

On July 11, our Chamber Breakfast Meeting will be sponsored by the Lamoille Economic Development Corp., and “Fresh Tracks Road Pitch,” and John Mandeville from LEDC will be on hand to provide us with a brief summary of the associated “who, what, when, where & why”.  We are also very excited to welcome our July speaker, Kathryn Becker Van Haste from the Office of Senator Bernie Sanders, and we’ve already got several new member introductions and spotlighters lined up.

This August 8, Vermont’s Attorney General TJ Donovan will be presenting on the new Consumer Assistance Program. In an effort to determine what works best for our members, this Chamber Breakfast Meeting will be a “Lunch” meeting!  We are looking for a venue in the Cambridge area, as well as a sponsor for this event!

Leadership Lamoille, Workforce Development, and other Efforts
We are proud to have graduated eight individuals from our 2017 Leadership Lamoille program. Leadership Lamoille is a dynamic series of educational experiences designed to provide participants with the tools they need to be effective and responsible leaders.

Leadership Lamoille is offered every two years by the Lamoille Chamber of Commerce, and graduates can be found in nearly every sector of our community.

In my visits with members, the most prevalent “challenge” that I hear of is the difficulty that most employers have in maintaining a consistent workforce, and so I’ve been actively participating in workforce development initiatives in our county.

In a dynamic June 6 meeting at the Morrisville Stowe State Airport, a “standing room only” crowd of about 35 local business people gathered to discuss our region’s assets with Tradewind Aviation, and we learned about what they have to offer as well.  We are optimistic and believe that a strong partnership with Stowe Aviation, Tradewind Aviation, our business community, and our Chamber of Commerce, will lead to opportunities for growth in our region.

We’re active around the State!

I was excited to attend the Vermont Chamber Business Expo in Burlington a couple weeks ago, and made many connections with existing members and possible future members.  The enthusiasm with which I was met is proof positive, at least in my book, that Lamoille County is making a positive contribution to the Vermont business landscape.

We appreciate the strength of the Vermont Chamber of Commerce, their advocacy on our behalf, and their ability to provide our members with affordable dental and vision insurance, and we are pleased to pass along news from the Vermont Chamber of Commerce.

We’re growing quickly!

New Board of Directors
We have recently brought on 3 new members of our Board of Directors, and we would like to add several more.  Although we have a few who have expressed interest, we are still looking for people who can represent manufacturing, healthcare, education, agriculture and the legal field. If you are interested, please send us a letter of interest, along with a resume.

Blending the LRCC and SNACC
Earlier this year, the Lamoille Region Chamber of Commerce (LRCC) was asked to consider the inclusion of the Smugglers’ Notch Area Chamber of Commerce (SNACC) membership post dissolution of the latter, and all SNACC members were invited to continue their Chamber membership with the LRCC.  Although many have joined, we are looking forward to welcoming more.

We believe that the strength and vitality of our Chamber of Commerce and our communities will be significantly enhanced with the inclusion of the SNACC membership.

We have also been asked to adopt their two signature events, and we are looking forward to an exciting July 4 celebration in Jeffersonville.  We hope that you’ll join us for the parade at 10:00, and the vendor fair at 10:45.  Call us for more information about how to enter a “float” or march in the parade, or if you would like to be a vendor or a sponsor.  It’s going to be a fun day!

And later, in August …

Calling all entrepreneurs!
Are you an entrepreneur? Your Chamber a proud sponsor of “Fresh Tracks Road Pitch,” brought to you by Lamoille Economic Development Corp., scheduled for Friday, August 4. Are you ready to “pitch” your idea to possible investors?

A little “Night Golf,” anyone?
On August 11, our Chamber will present its first ever “Night Golf” event at Copley Golf Club. A portion of the proceeds earned from this event will go toward scholarships for local high school seniors graduating in 2018.

But it’s less about the golf, and more about the fun (and, of course, the scholarships), and yes, you heard that right, golf at night!  We’ll have lighted “LED” balls and fairways lined with lights.  There will be a putting contest, and prizes for the best costumes and golf cart, as well as other more traditional awards.

We’ll start with a yummy bar-b-que and we’ll probably finish with an ice cream sundae bar.

We’re pleased to say that we’ve signed up our first sponsor for this event! The Vermont Flannel Company will be sponsoring the gift bags, and so each participant will go home with a terrific Vermont Flannel Co. bag and other items.

Give us a call to register your team or to learn more about sponsorship opportunities!

Wishing you a fabulous & prosperous month,
